Fishery & Marine Processing
Ice is essential for preserving the catch from boat to processing plant. Fishery applications need flake ice at –7 °C for its high surface area, fast cooling, and ability to pack around irregular fish shapes without bruising. Tube ice is used for retail seafood display in coastal markets.
Sizing rule: 1 TPD of flake ice per 5–8 tonnes of fish landed per day. A coastal processor handling 50 tonnes/day in Ratnagiri, Veraval or Visakhapatnam typically installs a 6–10 TPD flake ice plant plus a 30–60 m³ insulated ice storage room with rake delivery to dispatch trucks.
Dairy Industry
Raw milk must be cooled to 4 °C within 2 hours of milking to arrest bacterial growth. Industrial flake ice plants paired with chilled-water systems are the standard solution at dairy collection centres and processing plants across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh.
Sizing rule: 1 TPD of flake ice per 10,000 litres of milk handled per day. A 100,000-litre/day dairy typically installs a 10 TPD flake ice plant with ammonia (NH3) refrigerant for energy efficiency.
Meat & Poultry
Slaughterhouses and meat processors use flake ice for carcass cooling, cutting-line surface contact, and ground-meat temperature control. Strict hygiene standards (FSSAI for India, EU/USDA for export) require SS 304 food-contact construction throughout.
Sizing rule: 1 TPD of flake ice per 5,000 kg of dressed meat processed per day. Praj plants for this industry use SS 304 evaporators and IS 10500-compliant water input. Optional ATEX-rated electricals for combined cold-storage and process-cooling installations.
Chemical & Dyes
Exothermic chemical reactions (dye intermediates, fine chemicals, agro-chem actives) require precise temperature control. Flake ice and brine-chilled water systems are used to quench reactors during runaway-risk steps and maintain consistent product quality.
Praj supplies ice plants for chemical clusters in Vapi, Ankleshwar, Tarapur and Hyderabad with hazardous-area-rated electrical components on request. Ammonia plants for this segment follow IS 660 plant-room design rules with dual-pressure safety relief.
Bakery Industry
Large-scale bread production requires precise dough temperature (22–26 °C). In Indian climates this means cooling the mixing water with flake ice metered into the dough. Automated ice-dosing systems integrate with the mixer's PLC for batch-to-batch consistency.
A 100-tonne/day bread plant typically needs 0.5–1 TPD of flake ice. Praj's smallest model (PRI-FIM-1, 1 TPD) is the right starting point for most bakery installations.
Pharmaceutical & Medical
Vaccine cold chain, API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) crystallisation, and biotech reactor cooling all need controlled cold temperatures. Tube ice is preferred for clean-room friendly handling; flake ice for jacket cooling and reactor quench.
Praj supplies pharma-grade systems with cGMP-compliant materials, full documentation packages (IQ/OQ/PQ), and stainless-steel-only contact surfaces. Reach out for industry-specific QC documentation and validation support.
Hospitality — Cafés, Hotels & Restaurants
Hotels and beverage outlets need crystal-clear tube ice for cocktails, packaged drinks, banquet ice carving and food display. Praj tube ice plants in 1–10 TPD sizes serve 100-room to 500-room properties across India.
Sizing rule: 1–2 TPD per 100 rooms for mid-scale hotels; 3–5 TPD for 300-room properties; 5–10 TPD for large resort properties with multiple beverage outlets and banquet halls.
Amusement Parks & Snow Attractions
Indoor snow parks, ski domes and winter-themed attractions need large volumes of soft snow at –5 to –10 °C. Praj engineers flake ice plants sized for continuous snow production with integrated rake delivery to the play area.
A typical 1,000 m² indoor snow park needs a 10–30 TPD flake ice plant with 24/7 continuous operation. Ammonia (NH3) refrigerant is standard for energy efficiency at this scale.
Concrete Cooling
Large infrastructure pours in tropical climates (bridge decks, dam pours, nuclear-plant foundations, metro tunnel linings) require concrete batched with ice instead of water to control hydration heat and prevent thermal cracking. Flake ice is the format of choice — it melts as the mixer turns, replacing water.
Sizing rule: 1 TPD of flake ice per 30 m³ of concrete poured per day. Praj has supplied concrete-cooling plants to bridge, dam and metro projects across India including infrastructure work in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka.
